Wilmington River Walk
Wilmington - An Historic Community
Wilmington, known as the Port City,
was first settled in 1729. This historic city sits on the picturesque
Cape Fear River, just miles from the Intercoastal Waterway and the Atlantic
Ocean.
The City of Wilmington is blessed with a beautiful and extensive downtown
Historic District. This area, which remains the core of the community
today, is made up of approximately 230 city blocks. As more and more
of the city's older homes in the Historic District are being restored,
and condominiums and townhouses are being added, the city’s downtown landscape
is expected to grow during the next decade. Plus, there’s a beautiful
view of the Cape Fear River from almost every vantage point.
Tourists and potential residents to Wilmington regularly discover the
desirability of vacationing and living in North Carolina's Southern Coast.
Visitors to this waterfront city enjoy excellent shopping and restaurant
venues, as well as outstanding marinas like Watermark Marina of Wilmington
– an ideal location for starting the perfect recreational day on the water.
As the Port City continues to grow and attract more visitors, The City
of Wilmington is undertaking plans to improve and expand desirable waterfront
access and recreational amenities.
